Finding a Happy Place

So after I wrote the post about Summertime Blues, I found a happy place to be in the summer.

Pretty, no?

We don’t live far from Bellingham, Washington, and to get away from the heat, the kiddo and I decided to drive down to a waterfront park we’d never been to before. On the way there we drove through Fairhaven, a quaint little shopping district in the very old, historic part of Bellingham, which is less than a mile from the water. We parked and spent hours wandering around the the shops. The air was much cooler than “inland” and the streetsĀ are lined with massive trees that shade all of the sidewalks and beautiful potted plants abound everywhere!

The shops were eclectic, and though we spent four hours there, I’m fairly certain I could have done another four.

My favorite shop was the glass artists’ store. All local artists and the most amazing creations I’ve ever seen.

Yes, definitely a happy place for me. We spent almost no money, but found a treasure in the lovely shop, and one terrific book store.
