One of my favorite treats any season and any time of the day is stopping in at Faubourg Paris on Hornby Street in Vancouver. It truly does feel as if I’m in Paris and that’s especially true on a sunny spring or summer evening when I can sit outside and watch the crowds go by.
I’ve tried almost everything on their menu but I always go back to this particular treat: a lemon tart and a cappuccino with caramel. The lemon tart is amazing, sweet and tart at the same time. They use lemon curd and vanilla milk foam and then there’s pearl sugar to add a little crunch. It’s the perfect afternoon treat to have while you’re people watching.
And Hornby Street (Faubourg is right across the street from the Vancouver Art Gallery, around the corner from the Hotel Vancouver, the Rosewood Hotel and the hippest shopping street in the city) is one of the best places in the city to people watch. This location allows you to watch hipsters off Robson, tourists from the Art Gallery, business people from the office buildings on Hornby, media people from the several television stations in the neighborhood, and tourists from all over the world.
If you get a chance, stop in. I vouch for all of their pastries, but the lemon tart has my taste buds and my heart.
