Almost thirty-five years ago, I was married and divorced in a very short period of time. What does that have to do with cookies, you ask? There is one thing I still have from that marriage: cookie recipes.
A few lovely women held a shower for me and instead of gifts, they gave me cookies and the recipes that went along with them. And I have used those recipes for the past three and a half decades. Each time I do, I think of those women and how kind they were to me. And each time I make one of these recipes, generally to take to an event of some kind, everyone raves about them.
I have five recipes and sometime over the next little while, you’ll get all of them. Today, I’m sharing with you the world’s best peanut butter cookies. And no, I’m not giving you a healthy version of them. There are all kinds of healthy foods out there, but great cookies are great cookies, and I’m not messing with a perfect recipe.
PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES
Blend together in the order given:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
Form into small balls, flatten with floured fork and bake at 375 degrees until done, about 15 minutes. I have a handwritten note on the recipe that changes 15 to 9 or 10 minutes, so be careful the first time that you watch them and don’t overcook them.
